Add a WhatsApp number
Register a number with Meta and give it to a department.
Each number speaks for one department, and decides who can see the conversations that arrive on it. Connect WhatsApp first.
If a number is already on your WhatsApp Business Account, press Sync from Meta on the Numbers tab instead, then assign it.
Start
Go to Settings, then WhatsApp, then Numbers, and press Add a number.
Describe the number
- What this number is for: Department for a sales or rentals number, or Ops for your workspace ops agent. A workspace has one Ops number.
- Label: what your team calls it. Customers never see it.
- Country and Phone number: digits only, no plus sign. The number must not already be in use on the WhatsApp Business app or with another provider.
- Display name: shown to customers. Meta reviews it and can reject it.
Press Add and send code. Meta sends a code to the number by SMS.
Verify
Enter the six-digit Verification code and press Verify. If it did not arrive, choose Resend by SMS or Call me instead.
Set a PIN
Choose a six-digit Two-step verification PIN and press Register with Meta. Ownstay stores it encrypted, so you do not need to remember it.
Assign a department
Pick the Department and press Assign. This cannot be changed later: every conversation on the number sits behind that department's wall.
If you stop partway, the number's row offers Continue setup or Assign a department.
A department with no number
Booking confirmations and check-in reminders for a department fail until it has a number In service. The Numbers tab warns you when this is the case.
Archive a number
Choose Archive number on its row. It is deregistered at Meta, its history is kept, and you can restore it later without verifying it again.
